Aries

Aries is the opening gesture of the zodiac. Wherever it sits in a chart, it tends to describe the place where you start things rather than wait for them.

Aries is a cardinal fire sign, which is a way of saying it initiates and it does so with heat. In practice that often reads as a low tolerance for stalling. The Aries part of a chart is usually the part that would rather find out by doing than keep modelling the situation in advance.

Read by house, Aries points at the area of life where you tend to move first. In the tenth house that might look like taking the lead in work before anyone hands it to you. In the fourth it might look like being the one who changes the shape of a home. The sign describes the manner, the house describes the room.

The reflective question with Aries is rarely about courage. It is usually about aim. Speed is only useful when it is pointed somewhere you actually chose, and the fast first move can be either a decision or a way of ending the discomfort of not having decided yet.

At its best

Directness that saves everyone time. A willingness to be the first name on a list, and to carry the risk of being wrong out loud rather than quietly.

When it tightens

Momentum can start to stand in for direction. When the impulse to act arrives, consider whether you are moving toward something or moving away from the waiting.

Sit with these

  • What did you start this year that you have not yet finished, and what would finishing it ask of you?
  • Where does your directness land well, and where does it arrive before the context does?
  • What are you doing quickly because it is right, and what are you doing quickly because waiting is uncomfortable?
